How to Do It Series - Episode 3 - Vermi-Composting

Hi everyone,

Again, thanks for all the positive feedback following the ongoing release of our instructional videos. It's heart-warming to know that this information is being so well received.

In the last video, you discovered a productive strategy for creating a vermicompost extract. In this session, we will examine how you might make that vermicompost.

I have tried various on-farm vermicomposting techniques, and they all have drawbacks. However, as is often the case, simplicity reigns supreme. The technique you are about to discover was shared by a Rockhampton grazier during a field day on his property. It is the simplest and most effective way to produce your own high-quality vermicompost.

Vermicompost is dramatically more effective than any other compost I have used on my farms. If you do not have the time to produce your own, I highly recommend the product produced by Worms Down Under in Queensland.

Vermicompost is a repository of a vast suite of beneficial microbes, many of which are seriously compromised in our chemically farmed soils. These include organisms that stimulate both plant growth and plant immunity. The vibrant new workforce includes nitrogen-fixing organisms, phosphate solubilisers, and a variety of organisms that can help manage disease. These boost soil fertility and improve soil structure, aeration, and water retention, leading to more robust crops and higher yields.

This DIY windrow strategy produces a beautiful end product.

I trust you will be motivated to try it for yourself.

Warm regards,
