How to Do It Series 2 - Episode 10 - Culturing Trichoderma on Sorghum

Hi Everyone,

Welcome to the latest episode of Season 2 of the, “How to Do It”, video series. This week you will be introduced to a novel new way to multiply the multi-purpose, beneficial fungi, Trichoderma.

This organism ranks amongst my personal favorites, as it offers so many benefits. It has been shown to be a perfect replacement for fungicides on seed, as it controls most of the early damping off diseases that necessitate this chemical intervention. Unlike the chemicals that compromise other beneficials like mycorrhizal fungi, Trichoderma is synergistic with AMF. The chemicals only offer protection for less than six weeks while Trichoderma partners with the plant for the entire crop cycle.

Trichoderma provides protection on two levels. It is a predatory fungi known to predate upon over 30 plant diseases and it is also an immune elicitor that boosts the plants capacity to fight its own battles. The good news here is that all known immune elicitors also enhance yield.

Trichoderma also boosts NPK performance, to the extent that the Philippine  Ag department actively promotes the inclusion of Trichoderma with all NPK inputs.

It is a very productive phosphate solubiliser to help recover some of your frozen P reserves.

Trichoderma is also a powerful cellulose digester that can help turn crop residues into humus. This creature also produces plant growth stimulants that stimulate root growth. This can be particularly evident in plant propagation when treated cutting often outperform those treated with a commercial rooting hormone.

Learn more about these and other benefits that can be cost effectively obtained through this inexpensive microbe multiplication strategy.

I hope you gain something of value from this video, Happy Nutrition Farming!
